Northwood Choral Society - a local choir for all singers
NCS rehearsing Handel's Messiah November 2010 Come and sing with us! We are a local amateur choir of about thirty singers and warmly welcome new singers! The choir was founded in 1973 as Trinity Music Society and in 2008 changed its name to Northwood Choral Society. During each season we rehearse and perform a variety of mainly classical choral music in one of Northwood's churches (see Concert venues), aiming to make our concerts enjoyable for audiences and performers alike. We give two major concerts, one in winter and one in spring, and a summer concert in lighter vein. Last summer - with delicious cheese and wine - we sang Jenkin's The Armed Man Suite and Chappell's The Daniel Jazz. In our winter concert we performed Brahms' Liebeslieder Walzer (in German!), Vaughan William's Five Mystical Songs and Elgar's The Banner of St George. Members of Northwood Choral Society go regularly on foreign concert tours: we have sung in Bruges, Florence & Rome, Venice, Barcelona & Krakow. Each July choir members join the Sussex Festival Choir to perform a major choral work in the beautiful setting of Arundel Cathedral, this year Elgar's The Apostles. Throughout the year we hold enjoyable fund-raising and social events including choral workshops and quiz suppers. |
